They say a picture is worth 1000 words. I have attached a before and after picture of the effects of the rain on a school in the southern zone of Costa Rica. A total of 24 people died in Costa Rica and Nicaragua as a result of the tropical depression we experienced last week. To give you an idea of the size of Costa Rica, it can be compared to size of the state of West Virginia.
Although we did not see the strongest effects of the storm in our neighborhood of San Francisco de Dos Rios, not far from our doorsteps, devastation and havoc destroyed many people’s lives.
Roads were closed, bridges swept away, and landslides destroyed homes throughout the country. The sun shining on Friday and Saturday was a blessing as any more rain would have been an even worse scenario on an already tragic situation.
It could be said that the province Guanacaste was one of the hardest hit. We are working with a local church to help with the needs of people who have been affected. If you would like to help by sending:
- Used clothing in good and clean condition
- Nonperishable food
- School supplies
- Potable/drinking water
- Baby supplies like diapers, etc.
